I recently recorded a short drum solo … here it is!
Remember awhile back, when I said I’m going to record some music this year? Well, this is me, testing my drum micing technique, and getting reacquainted with Logic Pro X.
I think it came out pretty well! Here’s what I used to record the drums:
- Kick Drum – Audix D6
- Snare Drum – Shure SM57
- High tom – Shure SM57
- Floor tom – Audio Technica ATM25
- High Hat – MXL 993
- Overheads (two of them) – MXL 990 (these were placed behind the drums, a little over my head, to capture it the way I hear it)
All of this was plugged into my Line 6 Toneport UX8 recording interface, which was plugged into my laptop. I used Logic Pro X for recording software.
And the drums – Tama Starclassic EFX drums, Pearl Chad Smith snare drum, and Paiste cymbals.
Fun stuff!
